How to play
Pieces made of four squares fall into a well ten squares wide. Move and rotate each piece as it falls so it fits with the others. Filling a complete horizontal row clears it, and everything above drops down. The game ends when the stack reaches the top.
| Action | Controls |
|---|---|
| Move left or right | Left and right arrow keys, or the ◀ ▶ buttons |
| Rotate | Up arrow, or the ⟳ button |
| Drop one row (soft drop) | Down arrow, or the ▼ button |
| Drop instantly (hard drop) | Space, or the ⤓ button |
Scoring and levels
| Lines cleared at once | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100 × level |
| 2 | 300 × level |
| 3 | 500 × level |
| 4 | 800 × level |
A hard drop also earns 2 points for each row the piece falls. You go up a level every 10 lines, and each level makes pieces fall faster, up to a maximum speed.
Tactics
- Use the ghost outline at the bottom of the well to see exactly where a piece will land.
- Keep the stack low and flat. Gaps covered by an overhang can’t be cleared until the rows above them are.
- Clearing four lines at once scores 800, far more than four single clears. Leaving one column open for the long straight piece is the classic way to set this up, but only when the rest of the stack is tidy.
- Check the next-piece preview before placing the current one.
About the genre
Falling-block puzzles date back to 1984, when the first game of this kind was created in the Soviet Union, and the seven four-square shapes used here have been standard ever since. This version is an independent game and is not affiliated with any brand or trademark holder.
