What the site is

Fiddlepop is a collection of 59 small browser tools: 15 calculators, 15 random generators, 14 quizzes, and 15 games. Each tool does one job on its own page and works as soon as the page loads.

It started from a familiar annoyance: needing a quick calculation or a random pick and landing on a page buried under sign-up prompts, autoplaying video, and pop-ups. The aim here is the opposite: a clear tool, an honest explanation of how it works, and nothing in the way.

Who runs it

Fiddlepop is an independent site built and maintained by one person, not a company. New tools are added a few at a time, and existing ones are fixed or improved when problems are reported. The contact page goes to an inbox that is read.

How the tools are built and checked

• Calculators use standard, published formulas, and each page names the formula and its source where one applies, such as the WHO BMI categories or the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for calorie needs. The reference tables on each page are produced by the same code that runs the calculator, so the table and the tool always agree.
• Generators say exactly how their randomness works. Passwords and UUIDs use the browser’s cryptographic random source; games of chance use standard randomness, which is fair for that purpose.
• Quizzes say which ones are just for fun and which borrow from a recognized psychology or career model, and what a short quiz can and can’t tell you. Every possible result is described on the quiz page.
• Games are tested for fairness before release, so they get harder at a pace a person can keep up with and never set up situations that can’t be survived.

Health and money calculators

Calculators for things like BMI, calorie needs, due dates, loans, and savings give estimates for planning and learning. They aren’t medical or financial advice and can’t account for individual circumstances. The terms page covers this in more detail.

Privacy

The tools run in your browser. Numbers, dates, and answers you type into a tool aren’t sent to a server. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and Google AdSense to show ads, and the privacy policy explains what those services collect and how to opt out.

How the site is paid for

Fiddlepop is free and is supported by advertising. There is no paid version, no paywalled features, and no email sign-up required to use anything. Advertisers have no say in the content of any page.
