Quick-pick vs. picking your own numbers

A common myth is that manually chosen numbers do better (or worse) than a machine-generated quick pick — they don't, and can't, since every possible combination has exactly the same odds of being drawn regardless of how it was chosen. The one real difference: birthdays and "meaningful" numbers cluster below 31, so a self-picked set is statistically more likely to have to split a jackpot with other players who picked similarly meaningful numbers, while a genuinely random set spreads across the full range with no such clustering.

Just how long the odds actually are

Powerball's odds of matching all numbers for the jackpot sit around 1 in 292 million; Mega Millions is similarly long odds; EuroMillions' jackpot odds sit around 1 in 140 million. For context, that's a substantially longer shot than being struck by lightning in a given year, which is commonly estimated at roughly 1 in a million in a lifetime. None of that changes what number generator is "best" — it just underscores that this tool exists for the fun of picking numbers, not as a strategy for beating odds this long.
